After experiencing personal tragedy, she joined leftist parties, supported the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War, and was imprisoned. Following her escape to Moscow in 1937, she worked as a secret agent, including sending crucial reports during WWII. She lived in America for over 20 years, participated in several clandestine operations, including those linked to nuclear secrets, and returned to the USSR to teach future intelligence agents until her death in 1988.
