Deokhye, Princess of Korea (1912-1989), was the last princess of the Korean Empire. Born on May 25, 1912, in Changdeok Palace, Seoul, she was the youngest daughter of Emperor Gwangmu and his concubine Yang Gwi-in. Her mother was granted a royal title after Deokhye's birth. Initially, Japan did not acknowledge her as a princess until 1917, when her name was formally recorded in the imperial family register. Emperor Gwangmu cherished her and built Deoksu Palace for her as a nursery and residence.
