Evangelia Micheli-Tzanakou was a Greek professor of biomedical engineering and director of the Intelligent Systems Laboratory at Rutgers University. Born on March 22, 1942, in Athens, she obtained her physics degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1968. She later pursued her master's and Ph.D. at Syracuse University, completing them in 1974 and 1977, respectively. A founding member of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), she was influential in neural networks and biomedical applications. She passed away on September 24, 2012, after battling cancer.
