Farouk El-Baz, born on January 2, 1938, in Zagazig, Egypt, is an American-Egyptian geologist and a prominent figure in space exploration. He worked with NASA on lunar geological exploration, selecting Apollo landing sites and training astronauts in sample collection from the Moon. He is currently a research professor and the director of the Remote Sensing Center at Boston University, Massachusetts, and an associate professor of geology at Ain Shams University in Cairo. He has affiliations with various geological and engineering organizations.
