Fernando Simões da Cruz Ferreira was a Portuguese physician, researcher, and professor of pathology, infectious diseases, and tropical medicine. He was also a national champion in fencing, winning titles with Sporting Clube de Portugal. Beyond teaching, he served as director and one of the reformers of the Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical at Egas Moniz Hospital, where a statue commemorating his contributions stands today.
