João Batista Franco Drummond was a Brazilian economist and guerrilla fighter born on May 28, 1942, in Varginha. He was a prominent member of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) and lived in obscurity for nearly ten years after being sentenced under the National Security Law. Drummond was arrested on December 15, 1976, and was killed the following day, likely at the hands of the regime during an event known as the Chacina da Lapa, alongside other PCdoB activists. His death remains one of many still under investigation during Brazil's military dictatorship.
