John Norman Ellis OBE was a British trade union leader born on February 22, 1939, in Leeds. He began his career at the Post Office before joining the Ministry of Public Building and Works. Ellis played a significant role in the Civil and Public Services Association (CPSA), becoming its assistant secretary in 1968 and later general secretary in 1986. He served on the General Council of the Trades Union Congress and was involved with the Council of Civil Service Unions. After his retirement in 1995, he contributed to the Civil Service Pensioners' Alliance and the Labour Party.
