Johnathan Nieves is an American actor best known for his role as Mateo Vega, the younger brother in the Vega family on Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. He was born in Chicago and started performing in theater and dance at the age of seven. His early television appearances include episodes of Empire, Chicago Fire, and Shameless. In 2019, he gained more recognition for his role in See You Yesterday. He has also appeared in Better Call Saul and Grey's Anatomy. Nieves is a co-founder of Visión Latino, a theater company focused on Latino stories.
