Mohammed Waheed Hassan Manik, born on January 3, 1953, is a Maldivian politician who served as the fifth President of the Maldives from February 7, 2012, to November 17, 2013, following the resignation of President Mohamed Nasheed. He was previously the Vice President from 2008 to 2012. Waheed is known for his moderate views and was a senior figure in UNICEF while working for the United Nations. He is notably the first Maldivian to earn a doctorate, achieving this from Stanford University, and is often referred to as 'Dr. Waheed' by Maldivians.
