Mohammed Said Farisi (1936-2019) was the first Secretary of Jeddah and the founder of its modern form. He led the planning of streets and the design of the corniche and squares between 1972 and 1986. His efforts transformed Jeddah into an open-air museum with sculptures by renowned artists. Under his tenure, expenditures for Jeddah reached $2.4 billion, including $630 million for beautification projects. He passed away on March 5, 2019.
