Randi Sømme was a pioneering Norwegian biochemist, born in 1931 and passing in 2003. She made history as the first woman in Norway to obtain a cand.real. degree in 1959. Sømme held the position of professor in biochemistry at Norges landbrukshøgskole, beginning her career at the Institute of Microbiology in 1958 before moving to the Chemical Institute. Her research focused on the structural elucidation of polysaccharides, and she became a professor in 1992, later leading the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology from 1998.
