Sveinung O. Flaaten is a Norwegian lawyer, judge, and politician born on February 11, 1953, in Elverum. He graduated from the University of Oslo in 1979 and served as a parliamentary group secretary for the Conservative Party. Flaaten was appointed State Secretary in Willoch's First Cabinet from 1981 to 1983, then became a district magistrate in 1988. He briefly served as mayor of Notodden after winning the 1991 local elections but resigned in 1993 and later joined the Labour Party in 2010. He currently partners in a law firm and operates a farm in Lisleherad.
