Balqash, also known as Balkhash, is a city in the Karaganda Region of Kazakhstan, situated on the northern shore of Lake Balkhash. The city has a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters, and its history dates back to the 18th century when it was established as a copper mining settlement. Today, Balqash is an industrial center and home to a significant Kazakh population.
