  • August 2, 1903: The Ilinden\u2013Preobrazhenie Uprising, organized by the Secret Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization, breaks out in the Ottoman provinces of Macedonia and Adrianople. The uprising aimed to gain autonomy for the region and was a significant event in the struggle for Macedonian independence.
  • August 3, 1903: The Kru\u0161evo Republic is proclaimed in Ottoman Macedonia; it is crushed 10 days later. The republic was a short-lived independent state established during the Ilinden\u2013Preobrazhenie Uprising. Its fall marked the end of the uprising.
  • August 4, 1903: Pope Pius X succeeds Pope Leo XIII as the 257th pope. Pope Pius X's papacy was marked by his efforts to reform the Catholic Church and his opposition to modernism. He is remembered for his encyclical Pascendi Dominici Gregis, which condemned modernism as a heresy.
