The town experiences a cold and humid continental climate with an average annual temperature of 1.5 °C (34.7 °F) and precipitation of 640 mm (25 in). Karpinsk has a rich history dating back to the 18th century when it was founded as a mining settlement. The town is home to several historical and cultural sites, including the Bogoslovsky Cathedral and the Karpinsky Mining Museum.
