Thornaby on Tees, also known as Thornaby, is a town in North Yorkshire, England, situated on the south bank of the River Tees, approximately 3 miles south of Stockton-on-Tees and 5 miles west of Middlesbrough. The town has a temperate maritime climate, with mild winters and warm summers. Thornaby's history dates back to the 11th century, when it was mentioned in the Domesday Book. The town grew rapidly in the 19th century due to the development of the iron and steel industry, and became a major center for shipbuilding and engineering. Thornaby's heritage is reflected in its many historic buildings, including the Grade II listed St Peter's Church and the Grade II listed Thornaby Town Hall.
