Emory, Virginia, is a town in Washington County, Virginia, United States, with a population of 1,222 as of the 2010 census. The town is located in the Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia, at the confluence of the North Fork Holston River and the South Fork Holston River. Emory was founded in 1774 and named after John Emory, a Methodist bishop. The town is home to Emory & Henry College, a private liberal arts college founded in 1836. Emory has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The town's average temperature is 55.6 °F (13.1 °C), and its average annual precipitation is 43.3 inches (1,099 mm).
