Großmaischeid is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is located in the Westerwald mountains, approximately 10 km (6 mi) north of Montabaur. The climate is temperate, with average temperatures ranging from 0°C (32°F) in January to 18°C (64°F) in July. The municipality was first mentioned in 1149 and has a rich history, including the construction of a castle in the 13th century and the establishment of a monastery in the 14th century.
