Novato, California is a city located in Marin County, north of San Francisco. The city has a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Novato was originally inhabited by the Coast Miwok people, and the city's name is derived from the Miwok word "nowat", meaning "resting place". The city was founded in 1839 by Mexican land grantee Manuel Vaca and was incorporated in 1960. Novato is home to a diverse population and is known for its beautiful scenery, parks, and trails.
