Türkmenbaşy, formerly known as Krasnovodsk, is a city in western Turkmenistan on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea. The city has a hot desert climate with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. Türkmenbaşy was founded in 1869 as a Russian military outpost and served as a major port and transportation hub for the region. The city is home to a number of historical and cultural sites, including the Türkmenbaşy Mosque, the Türkmenbaşy Museum, and the Türkmenbaşy Monument.
