Kourban Amanniazov (1932-2015) was a prominent Soviet, Turkmen, and Kazakh geologist-scientist. He was the author of over 400 works in geological and mineral sciences. He earned his Doctor of Geological Sciences degree in 1968 and became a professor in 1970. In 1981, he was elected as a corresponding member of the Turkmenistan Academy of Sciences. His contributions to geology have been significant, establishing him as a respected figure in his field.
