Altoona, Pennsylvania, also known as Altuna or Алтуна, is a city located in the Allegheny Mountains of central Pennsylvania, approximately 90 miles east of Pittsburgh. It has a humid continental climate with cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers. The city was founded in 1849 as a railroad hub and grew rapidly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, becoming a major center for the production of locomotives and railroad cars. Altoona has a rich history and heritage, including its role in the American Civil War and its contributions to the development of the railroad industry.
