Penig is a town in the district of Mittelsachsen, in Saxony, Germany. It is located in the valley of the Zwickauer Mulde, about 20 kilometers southeast of Chemnitz. The town has a population of around 9,000 people. The climate is temperate, with average temperatures ranging from 0°C in January to 20°C in July. Penig was first mentioned in 1243 and received town privileges in 1288. The town was an important center of trade and commerce in the Middle Ages. In the 19th century, Penig became a center of the textile industry. Today, the town is home to a number of small businesses and industries.
