Pomponesco, Lombardy, Italy is a comune located in the province of Mantua. The town is situated in the Po Valley, about 25 kilometers (16 miles) southeast of Mantua. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cold, foggy winters. Pomponesco was first mentioned in a document in 1007. The town was ruled by the Gonzaga family from the 14th to the 18th century. In 1797, Pomponesco became part of the Cisalpine Republic, and in 1815, it became part of the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia. In 1861, Pomponesco became part of the Kingdom of Italy.
