Sauveterre-de-Béarn, also known as Sauveterre, is a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of the Aquitaine region in southwestern France. Located in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains, the town enjoys a mild climate with an average temperature of 14 degrees Celsius. Its history dates back to the 12th century when it was founded as a bastide, a fortified town, by Gaston VII, Viscount of Béarn. The town's heritage is reflected in its well-preserved medieval architecture, including its 13th-century church, fortified walls, and half-timbered houses.
