Sugar City is a city in Madison County, Idaho, United States. It is located in the eastern part of the state, approximately 20 miles (32 km) west of Rexburg. The city has a population of about 1,500 people. The climate in Sugar City is semi-arid, with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in July is 75 degrees Fahrenheit (24 degrees Celsius), while the average temperature in January is 25 degrees Fahrenheit (-4 degrees Celsius). The city was founded in 1883 by Mormon settlers. The settlers were attracted to the area because of the abundance of sugar beets. The sugar beet industry was the main economic driver in Sugar City for many years. However, the industry declined in the late 20th century, and the city's economy has since diversified.
