Türkmenabat, formerly known as Chardjou, is a city in eastern Turkmenistan, situated on the Amu Darya River near the border with Uzbekistan. It has a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. Historically, Türkmenabat was a major trading center on the Silk Road and was ruled by various empires, including the Persian, Arab, and Russian. Today, it is a modern city with a rich cultural heritage, home to numerous historical sites, museums, and theaters.
