Kilmarnock, also known as Cill Mhearnag, is a town in East Ayrshire, Scotland, located in the west-central Lowlands at the confluence of the River Irvine and the River Kilmarnock. The town has a temperate maritime climate with mild winters and cool summers, with rainfall throughout the year. Kilmarnock's history dates back to the 12th century, when it was a small village known as Kilmarnock. The town grew in the 18th and 19th centuries as a center for the textile industry, and it is still home to a number of textile mills today. Kilmarnock is also known for its football team, Kilmarnock F.C., which plays in the Scottish Premiership.
