Korsun’-Shevchenkivs’kyy, Cherkas'ka, Ukraine is a city in central Ukraine with a population of 17,500. It is located on the Ros River, about 100 kilometers south of Kyiv. The city has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. Korsun’-Shevchenkivs’kyy was founded in the 11th century and was once the capital of the Principality of Korsun. The city was destroyed by the Mongols in the 13th century and rebuilt in the 16th century. It was renamed in honor of the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko in 1944. Korsun’-Shevchenkivs’kyy is home to a number of historical and cultural landmarks, including the Korsun Fortress, the Church of the Assumption, and the Taras Shevchenko Museum.
