It is located at the junction of U.S. Route 6 and State Route 10, about 120 miles (190 km) southeast of Salt Lake City. The town has a semi-arid climate, with hot summers and cold winters. The town was founded in 1877 by Mormon settlers and was named after Castle Valley, which was named after the sandstone cliffs that surround the valley.
