Cordova is a town in Richmond County, North Carolina, United States. It is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 74 and North Carolina Highway 109, approximately 12 miles (19 km) southwest of Rockingham and 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Laurinburg. The town has a population of 1,394 as of the 2020 census. Cordova was founded in 1899 as a railroad town. The town is named after the Spanish explorer Francisco Vásquez de Coronado. Cordova has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The average temperature in July is 82 °F (28 °C), and the average temperature in January is 42 °F (6 °C). Cordova is home to several historic sites, including the Cordova Depot and the Cordova Presbyterian Church. The town also has a strong agricultural heritage, with tobacco, cotton, and soybeans being the main crops.
