Krasnogvardeyskoye, formerly known as Biryuch, is a town located in the Belgorod Oblast of Russia, near the border with Ukraine. The town has a temperate continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. Krasnogvardeyskoye was founded in the 17th century as a fortress to protect the southern border of Russia. It played a significant role in the Russian Civil War and was renamed in 1928 in honor of the Red Guards.
