Sovetskiy is a city in the Khanty-Mansiyskiy Autonomous Okrug of Russia, located in Western Siberia at the confluence of the Ob and Yugan Rivers. It has a subarctic climate with long, cold winters and short, warm summers. The city was founded in 1963 as a settlement for workers building the Surgut-Urengoy gas pipeline and named after the nearby Soviet River.
