It is located at an elevation of 110 meters (360 feet) above sea level, and has a population of approximately 800 people. Tiefenthal was first mentioned in a document in 1141, and was granted town privileges in 1330. The town's heritage is rich, with many historical buildings and monuments, including the 14th-century church of St. Martin.
