Yashkino, Kemerovo, Russia

Yashkino is a town in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia, located at the confluence of the Yashkinka and Tom rivers, 34 kilometers southwest of Kemerovo. The town has a population of 16,500 (2010 Census). The climate is temperate continental, with warm summers and cold winters. The town was founded in 1857 as a Cossack settlement and named after the nearby Yashkinka River. In the early 20th century, Yashkino became a center of coal mining and metallurgy.
