Hamadān, Iran, formerly known as Ecbatana, is a city in western Iran, located at an altitude of 1,850 meters (6,070 feet) above sea level. The city has a cold semi-arid climate with hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. Hamadān has a rich history dating back to the Median Empire in the 7th century BC and is known for its ancient monuments, including the Ganjnameh inscriptions and the Tomb of Avicenna.
