Samuel Rahbar was an Iranian scientist born on May 12, 1929, in Hamedan. He significantly advanced diabetes research by linking HbA1C to plasma glucose levels. Rahbar earned his MD in 1953 and a PhD in immunology from the University of Tehran. His academic career included positions as assistant professor and director of the Department of Applied Biology at Tehran University. After leaving Iran in 1979, he continued his research at the City of Hope in California. He was honored by the ADA in 2012 for his contributions to diabetes science, particularly regarding glycemic status markers.
