He moved to Cairo to study at Ain Shams University, graduating in 1968 and worked as an assistant lecturer from 1973 to 1976. He served as editor-in-chief of the Yemeni newspaper October in Aden from 1970 to 1972 and later led the cultural section of the magazine Al-Hurriya in Beirut from 1976 to 1980. He founded Dar Ibn Rushd for publishing in Amman in 1983.
