Ṭāriq Ṭaiyib is an Egyptian writer, novelist, short story author, poet, and painter, born in Cairo in 1959. He has a Sudanese father and a mother of Sudanese-Egyptian descent. He studied economics and social sciences in Vienna, earning a Ph.D. in 1997. Ṭāriq has published nine works in Arabic and has translated his writings into several languages, including German and French. He received the Grand International Poetry Prize in Romania in 2007 and was appointed a cultural ambassador for Austria in 2008, while currently contributing to Al-Watan newspaper.
