Kushok Bakula Rinpoche (1917-2003) was a prominent religious leader in Ladakh, India, and the 19th incarnation of Bakula, one of the 16 Arhats of Buddha Shakyamuni. He played a significant role in reviving Buddhism in Mongolia and Russia and served as an Indian Member of Parliament. He founded the Bakula Rinpoche Süm monastery in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and was honored with the Padma Bhushan award in 1986. In 2005, Leh Airport was renamed Kushok Bakula Airport in his honor.
