Anand Swarup Arya (1931-2019) was a distinguished Indian structural engineer recognized for his contributions to soil and foundation engineering and earthquake disaster management. He served as the chairman of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Committee on Earthquake Engineering. Arya was honored with the United Nations Sasakawa Disaster Prevention Award in 1997 and received the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India, in 2002 for his significant contributions to the field.
