A. V. Coton, born Edward Haddakin on 16 February 1906, was a notable English ballet critic and writer. Initially working as a merchant seaman and a policeman, he transitioned into ballet criticism in 1935. Coton played a vital role in establishing Antony Tudor's London Ballet company in 1938 and later contributed to its revival. He became the ballet critic for The Daily Telegraph in 1954, mentoring future critics like Kathrine Sorley Walker. During WWII, he served as a light rescue worker. He passed away from cancer on 7 July 1969.
