A. W. Haydon was an American inventor and industrialist known for creating microminiature electrical timing devices used in industrial and military applications, contributing to early computing. He was granted 82 U.S. patents from 1931 to 1984, many still valuable today. In 1933, he founded Haydon Laboratory and later established the A. W. Haydon company in 1945. Selling his company to Philips in 1951, he remained as chief executive and later merged his companies into one entity. His legacy continues through Haydon Enterprises, acquired by Ametek in 2010.
