Aarno Salmela (1916–1991) was a notable Finnish violist and conductor, serving as a lecturer in viola at Sibelius Academy. Initially, Salmela studied violin and gained experience as a restaurant musician. He was a member of various orchestras and quartets throughout his career. From 1948 to 1968, he was the long-term conductor of the Kangasala Music Friends Orchestra. He contributed to music education, leading orchestra courses and nurturing young talent. In 1964, he received the Pro Finlandia Award for his contributions to Finnish music.
