Aavo Ürgsoo, originally known as Andrei Jurkson until 1936, was an Estonian military officer born on August 26, 1905, in Pärnu. He graduated from Pärnu Linna Ühisgümnaasium and later from the Estonian Military Academy and Aviation School, becoming a military pilot. Promoted to captain in 1937, he served as a battalion leader in Antsla and as a flight instructor. After World War II, he was imprisoned and forced to work in a coal mine in Poland for five years, eventually settling in Canada, where he worked as a technical assistant at the University of Toronto and was active in the Estonian community.
