Abbas Maroufi (May 17, 1957 - September 1, 2022) was an Iranian writer, publisher, and dissident, known for his novel 'Samfoni-ye mordegan' ('Symphony of the Dead') published in 1989 and as the editor of the critical cultural magazine 'Gardun' ('Dome'/'Atmosphere'). 'Gardun' was banned in 1996 for its critical stance against the government. Maroufi faced imprisonment and lashes but eventually left Iran, settling in Germany. His sophisticated literary works were banned in Iran. He lived in Berlin with his wife and daughters, running the largest Persian and Eastern literature bookstore in Europe.
