Abbas Vaez-Tabasi (1935-2016) was an Iranian Shia cleric and politician. Born on June 25, 1935, in Mashhad, he became the leader of the Imam Reza shrine following the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979 as per the directives of Ayatollah Khomeini. He was a representative of the Supreme Leader in the three provinces of Khorasan and the principal director of the religious seminary in Khorasan. Before the revolution, he was one of the clerics opposing the regime of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. He passed away on March 4, 2016, in Mashhad.
