Born in 1938 in El Jadida, Morocco, he passed away on March 16, 2009, in Rabat, at the age of 71, after a long illness. He studied sociology at the Sorbonne in Paris, where he explored the issues facing novelists in pre-revolutionary societies. His first novel, 'La Mémoire Tatouée' (The Tattooed Memory), was published in 1971. Khatibi's extensive work includes stories, novels, poems, and critical essays, positioning him as a significant commentator on Moroccan political and social issues.
