He gained fame in the year 2000 through his sermons broadcasted on Indonesian television, focusing on themes such as self-control, conscience, tolerance, child education, and management. Gymnastiar is also noted for advocating national reconciliation during times of extremism and has spoken in Christian churches. His hobbies include aerobatics and skydiving.
