Abhayadev, born Ayyappan Pillai on June 25, 1913, was an influential Indian poet and lyricist in Malayalam cinema during the 1970s. He contributed lyrics for approximately 500 films and scripted dialogues for 25 movies, beginning his career in 1949 with 'Vellinakshatram'. Deeply involved in cultural initiatives, he was a prominent member of various organizations including the Sahitya Pravarthaka Cooperative Society. In recognition of his work, he received the J. C. Daniel Award in 1995, and his legacy continues through his grandsons, Ambilikuttan (playback singer) and Jayadevan (violinist).
